HUGE Idea Grant Recipients Hire Leader for Early Education Coalition
Melissa Shyan-Norwalt has been chosen to help lead the formation of an early learning coalition in Fayette County. Huffer Child Care Resource and Referral was awarded funding by the Fayette County Foundation through the Huge Idea process to help oversee creation of an early learning coalition to help ensure that all children in Fayette County had the best start in life.
Ninety percent of a child’s brain is developed by the time they are 5 years old, and the Fayette County Foundation sees this stage of development as crucial to future workforce and community members’ prosperity.
Shyan-Norwalt is at work meeting other coalition leaders and pulling data about how young children and families are doing in Fayette County.
“I am very excited to be the new Early Learning Coordinator for Fayette County,” she said. “Together, our community can improve early childhood success and positively impact not only the children themselves, but also our families, our businesses and our community. I look forward to working with all stakeholders, as we work to ensure the educational, career, and community success of our youngest community members.”
