River’s Edge Phase 1 Ground Breaking: May 23
It began with a dream to create more recreational opportunities in our community more than 10 years ago. On May 23 we are taking a giant step toward making this a reality.
In the fall of 2006, the Ohio Valley Gas donated the funds to create a new soccer complex. Eleven years later, soccer is the largest youth activity in the community.
In the fall of 2015, the City of Connersville purchased additional land around the soccer complex. The long range dream was becoming a reality. One of the biggest attributes of the land is access to the Whitewater River. Planning for phase one began. The Foundation staff worked and secured a grant from the Indiana DNR to create public access to the river and built a canoe launch. Next, the Foundation staff applied and was awarded a federal DNR grant to begin developing the area closest to the river.
On May 23 the Foundation will break ground for Phase 1 of River’s Edge Park. River’s Edge will be a highlight of Fayette County. Features will include an outdoor amphitheater, concession building, playground, open air shelter, and a canoe launch.
Public is welcome for the ceremony beginning at 7 p.m. sharp. Events will include a bounce house, food truck, and a donor’s reception at 6 p.m.
