Foundation Seeking Two Summer 2022 Interns – APPLY NOW!

The Fayette Community Foundation is excited to announce we are seeking exceptional applicants to apply for two summer internships for Summer 2022. These internships will be full-time, paid opportunities at the Foundation office in Connersville, Indiana.

The Fayette Community Foundation is a public charity intended to help leverage charitable giving in support of the public good.  More specifically, the Foundation leads in grantmaking programs, enhances the spirit of community, initiates projects to improve the quality of life, and encourages philanthropy in Fayette County.  The Foundation stewards permanent, endowed funds in support of a wide range of donor interests.

This internship is made possible because of a grant from the GIFT program of the Lilly Endowment, Inc, through the Indiana Philanthropy Alliance.

Student Eligibility:

Full or part-time undergraduate and graduate students who are enrolled in accredited two-year or four-year Indiana colleges or universities will be eligible for internships. Undergraduate students must have completed their first year of college and all applicants must be enrolled in classes for the following Fall semester (recent grads are ineligible).

Philanthropy in Practice Intern Duties & Responsibilities

Internship Objectives:

This internship is ideal for a student who is interested in exploring what a career in philanthropy and nonprofit management can look like. The Philanthropy in Practice intern will work closely with the Office Coordinator and Data Specialist to review and improve current processes, learn gift entry and acknowledgements, and fund development.

With supervision and in conjunction with everyone on the Foundation staff; the intern will assist with routine office functions and select events.  We believe this will help provide a well-rounded work experience and support the acquisition of nonprofit management skills.

Objectives:

With help from the staff,

  • Develop protocols to standardize and align the Foundation’s paper and electronic filing system to ensure that information is captured consistently and made readily available.
  • Review the Foundation’s existing fund files and file systems to:
    • identify missing or incomplete information, including background information on donors and fund founders;
    • implement the protocols to align the paper and electronic systems; and
    • manage filed materials with respect to the Foundation’s Document Retention and Destruction Policy.
  • Conduct a fund audit to verify all fund agreements are in compliance with formatting standards.
  • Shadow the Office Coordinator and Data Specialist in daily tasks to learn the basics of community foundation operations.
  • Assist with general office duties as needed, including reception, phone management, mailing, copying, meeting preparation, etc., and related duties as assigned.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Proficient using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and able to learn new programs quickly
  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills 
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to work both independently and cooperatively
  • Demonstrates professionalism, efficiency, and courtesy
  • Driven and hardworking
  • Ability to take direction and multi-task

Duties and Responsibilities

   With guidance from the Foundation staff:

  • Perform administrative and office support activities for Foundation staff
  • Filing, scanning, and saving documents into electronic format
  • Perform fund audit
  • Update database 
  • Organize files
  • Other duties as assigned

Operational Details:

  • Paid internship. $12/hr for undergraduate student and $15/hr for graduate student
  • Up to 30 hours per week – flexible schedule
  • Regular office hours are 8:30A – 4:00P, Monday through Friday.
  • Work will be conducted at the Foundation Building, 521 Central Ave, in Connersville with opportunities for some remote work.
  • Intern to start in May/June and work for 8-12 weeks.

 

Youth Philanthropy & Leadership Intern

Internship Objectives:

This internship is ideal for a student who is interested in exploring a career in philanthropy, community outreach, program development and who has a particular interest in supporting youth engagement. The Youth Philanthropy & Leadership Intern will work closely with the Director of Community Impact to develop a plan to launch a youth philanthropy council in Fayette County.

Objectives:

  • Conduct research on best practices in youth philanthropy
  • Coordinate with the Director of Community Impact to develop a framework for an inaugural youth philanthropy council to be presented at the culmination of the internship:
    • Brainstorm membership structure for initial, and future, years
    • Communicate with Fayette County School Corporation, when possible to develop buy-in
    • Develop ideas for mission and purpose
    • Seek out training opportunities for the first council cohort
  • Shadow the Director of Community Impact in daily tasks to learn the basics of community foundation operations and grantmaking practices
  • Coordinate with Philanthropy in Practice intern to assist in updating records for community grantmaking and scholarship funds, as needed
  • Assist with general office duties as needed, including reception, phone management, mailing, copying, meeting preparation, etc., and related duties as assigned.
