Fayette Community Foundation Announces Emergency Grants to Support Local Families Impacted by SNAP Benefit Suspension
In response to the temporary suspension of federal SNAP benefits, the Fayette Community Foundation (FCF) has approved proactive grant funding to help local families facing food insecurity. More than 3,000 Fayette County residents are expected to be affected by the disruption in benefits.
To address this urgent need, the Foundation’s Board of Directors approved a total of $13,000 in emergency grants from the Fayette County Community Impact Fund. The grants will provide immediate support to local food pantries and family resource organizations:
- $10,000 to the Fayette County Food Council, which supports multiple local food pantries and meal sites, including Higher Praise Pantry, Helping Hands Helping Hearts, Calvary Baptist Pantry, Kids Cupboard Pantry, Soldiers in the Lord’s Army, Grace Pantry, Mt. Zion Cupboard, Centerstone Pantry, The Lord’s Kitchen, and Community Meals. The Food Council operates under Fayette County Community Voices and will allocate resources based on each pantry’s level of impact and frequency of distributions.
- $500 to Community Sharing Foundation, another local pantry, to assist with purchasing additional food supplies to meet increased demand.
- $2,500 to The Hope Center, to purchase baby formula and diapers in response to a sharp increase in need from local families.
“Although we don’t yet know how long this interruption will last, the need is immediate,” said Abigail Roszell, Executive Director of the Fayette Community Foundation. “These grants allow our community partners to respond quickly and help families stay supported in the meantime, and we’re grateful that our unrestricted Community Impact Fund gives us the ability to respond when our community needs us most.”
The Fayette Community Foundation continues to monitor the situation and remains in contact with local partners to assess ongoing needs.
