March Nonprofit Meetup Notes
The March Nonprofit Meetup topic was volunteer engagement. Attendees were split into 5 different topics; volunteer database, communication methods, call for volunteers, volunteer acknowledgement, and systems. After finding their tables, introductions, and discussion on their topic each table presented to the room.
Volunteer Database:
- Attendees didn’t present on volunteer databases. Some things to think about moving forward include a system to keep track of volunteers names, contact info, interest area, etc.
Communication Methods:
- Many attendees brought up Google Voice which is an app you can get on your phone that will hide your personal phone number so you can call and text people.
Call for Volunteers:
- Asking people directly could increase the chances that they say yes.
- Having a diverse board could mean there are more volunteers to reach out to.
- Reaching out to the school corporation is always a great idea because many school programs and sports require volunteer hours.
Volunteer acknowledgement:
Systems:
- Documenting volunteers and events is important information to have in order to provide on some grant applications.
- In order to calculate volunteer hours as in kind donations many organizations look up the current rate and calculate it from there.
