Reygan Over received the Albert and Wilda M. Pearson Scholarship, and the Harold and Shirley Reihman Scholarship, both endowments of the Fayette County Foundation. Both are nursing scholarships that require applicants who have at least a 3.0 GPA and are  a graduating senior of Connersville High School.

Albert and Wilda M. Harold and Shirley Reihman Scholarship was established in 2005 through a gift from Harold and Shirley’s estate.  Shirley was he was a native of South Amana, Iowa, born May 18, 1930.  She was a 1948 graduate of Amana High School and received her degree as a registered nurse from the University of Iowa in 1951.  She had been employed as a registered nurse for several years prior to having children.  She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and had served on many boards, including the Landmark Center, Fayette County Public Library, Area Artists Series and YMCA. She had also been a volunteer for the Red Cross and Home Nursing and Expectant Parent classes.  Shirley was a dedicated member of the Fayette Garden Club as a master gardener, a master judge of the Indiana Association of Accredited Flower Show Judges and a member of the Indiana Landscape Design Critics.  As an avid golfer, she was the winner of the Connersville Country Club 18 Hole Championship on three ocassions.  She enjoyed running and placed first in her age division in the 1985 Detroit Marathon.

Harold was born in Amana, Iowa, on November 22, 1928. He was a graduate of Amana High School. Harold graduated from Iowa State with a degree in engineering. He served two years in the U.S. Air Force with the Strategic Air Command. Harold worked at Amana Refrigeration in Iowa until 1968, when he moved to Connersville, Indiana, for a management position with Philco, which became Philco Ford, which became Visteon. He was plant manager at Visteon for many years, where he was well thought of by all who worked there for his strategy of ‘management by walking around’. Harold walked the plant floor every morning, interacting with the employees. Harold and Shirley were prominent and active members of the Connersville community for many years.

Reygan Over is now attending  IU East in Richmond pursuing a degree in nursing. Reygan said, “I want to help people that cannot help themselves. I plan to give back to Fayette County through college and beyond by coming back and again helping as much people as I can even if I am not working in the hospital. I am most deserving for this scholarship because I care for people and I am a great leader. I have been in many situations where someone is needed to stand up and I am always the first to volunteer. I also believe that I can make a difference in peoples lives and going into the medical field is the first step in doing this.”

This year the Foundation awarded 34 scholarships to 19 students with $100,337 in tuition funds awarded.
